The Chevy LUV (light utility vehicle) ute was originally designed to be a work horse and to make life easier carrying around an arrange of things on its tray. From 1972 these utes where sold to the American market as Chevy LUV’s but were originally a re-branded Isuzu Faster packing a mighty 80hp 4 cylinder and 4 speed manual.
This LUV is nothing close to the standard utility farm truck that it once was. A.J from A.S.G Performance, Manukau is building her up to be nothing short of stunning, with a massive drop to start the project off and some pretty sweet chassy work; you can already see what direction she’s looking towards. It’s currently on its way to being a street legal drag ute packing a clean 355CI small block and only weighing around the 1100kg mark, she’s going to be that one car that just can’t grab enough traction.

The back end of this thing is evil, backing some very wide tyres that are just about hugging the chassy rails.

Still in primer while the rest of the body work happens. She sits here in the raw like a nude model letting me see her true beauty.

The crisp, deep gold Chevy badge is cable tied in its future position, ready to be crowned.

The empty space: the solid blue and shiny chrome of the engine bay awaiting the rest of its family of parts. The 355 proudly wearing its deep gloss blue and high inlet manifold featuring a 600CFN holley carburetor. The engine black was never meant to be blue, Cody one of the young workers at A.S.G was told to go and choose a colour from a local paint store. Cody, being a Ford man, decided it was only fitting to paint the Chevy engine Ford blue… Not to sure if A.j felt the same way.

In the very near future when Street Culture come’s back to review this beast we hope this full tank of NOS will be sitting happily on the back tray or in the center console.

With an arrange of original part’s this LUV will still have its original character, we love to see this! Character is what makes a vehicle and every one is different.

This LUV has a long road ahead of it but once she is finished, she will be beautiful. We thank A.J and the boy’s from A.S.G Performance for showing us one of there many toys and told us to come back for a ride once she’s finished.
