Calums s14 Ideas when we heard about calums s14 we asked what he had in it by the way he was descrbing the 370kw it was pushing and the lumpy monstrous sound being forced out by the tomi adjustable cam gears its anti lag system we were sure it was running a track ready 6 or 8 cylinder. Straight out of the gate we knew when we saw calums s14 we knew it would be something that your average man and his dog silvia would have nothing in common with especially when we had a peek inside to eyeball a tank of NOS!

We’ve known about Dean and his life choices for a few years and each time we catch up he’s always ready to take things to the next level in an unexpected way. Dean had been the man in the euro stance scene holding it down for a couple years since 2012 winning “stance off” with a unique look, to something most people would give away to their 15 year old learner to wreck. But Dean always forcing this under the knife to keep people guessing what kind of ridiculous outcome he could come up with next, without a doubt no one saw this one coming, he didn’t event see it coming himself.

It may look rough, and it is. When you see it, you automatically think its wrapped until you take a closer look and run your hands along the body. Grant and Ben from GT Refinishers approached Dean to try something new for 4s and Rotors one year proposing something they never really thought you could pull off. It took time painting it a few times but to get this result he’s more than happy with people reactions.

Dean knows its all about the little things which make a car so different like putting beaded seat covers which are super uncomfortable or dog grids on your windows when you don’t own a dog.

We asked “why this car? after owning handfulls of Toyota KE models to Hilman Avengers to a Honda city Turbo.” He simply told us he found a mint car and stuck with it, a friend of a friend was selling and happened to be the right place and right time and snatched it up.

Dean is a big fan of genuine wheels, rolling on 15×8 fifteen 52 snowflakes gives it that perfect ride height and flush look he wants, but without a doubt something will be under the knife to change the game yet again.

The way this MK2 Golf C sits is perfect, its sitting perfectly on yellow speed adjustable suspension but somehow still practical, with no “serious trouble getting around Auckland roads Dean can still pull off carrying five people comfortably (apparently).

We popped down to Autostance a few weeks back to hang out and see what everyone keeps talking about, the cool little store is on Highbrook Drive in Auckland. The first thing you walk past is a well stanced e36 and a very clean Mx-5, both catching my eye and enticing me to see more. Matthew, Heino and the boys were happy to show me round.

Autostance is well known in Auckland for their very very low s2000 that features a turbo charged VTEC 2L, Matthew one of the owners is not shy to show this thing off for what it is!

Hiding out the back is an extreme project going on, Heino the other owner has been working on this s14 for a while now and is going to feature a bit of a different V8 in it but that’s for another article!

Such a cool store and well experienced team! Would recommend giving them a call!

We shot this car quite, quite awhile ago and never managed to get it online but now its time for some light to be shed on this amazing car. Fritz the owner was the proud owner of this beast and had a great time driving while it was on the road and took it to a few drift track days. All good things sometime come to an end though and it was part of a crash. We have heard roomers that there is another improved and aggressive project on the way.

From the early age of 5, Ray has always loved the racing scene. With 15 years of experience working with International Motorsport, he has taken part in building some of New Zealand’s most impressive race cars. It is evident of his experience in the way that Ray built his Subaru RA spec-C while keeping the pedigree of the WRX.
As we sat down with Ray, he told us how he has no particular love for any specific make or model. All he wanted was something rare and something to keep the passion alive, “the skies the limit” he told us. We loved talking to Ray as we asked him what he had loved the most and should have kept. He told us all about his ’67 998 Cooper which he thought he would be buried in, unfortunately this was stolen and Ray needed to move on to bigger and better things. We’re glad to see the passion is still alive in such a long run in the motor industry and with a Monte Carlo replica Mini in progress, right down to the last nut and bolt. It will be one to keep an eye out for.

With Ray’s race history, in charge of many International Motorsport race teams, he was used to admiring this kind of action. With Ray seated behind the wheel, we could tell his days for racing were calling.

The Pig is from a Manga magazine, that was started in 1980 and featured Akira before it was made into a movie. It was also where Initial D was first published. It’s not really a rally pig at all. It has nothing to do with rallying other than it was a silly looking thing to have on the side of the Subaru WRC cars. The Subaru community has adapted it and made it a symbol of our sub-culture.

“Really, the drive is the build and full enjoyment of putting together a good piece of machinery and seeing it last”.

Keeping it as close as he can to a traditional rally car, Ray has added certain features, like this Sparco rally steering wheel.

“Most of it comes as you see it. Just a few safety items added. Roll hoop hopefully to hold your head together if you go over”.

As all the die hard Subaru fans know, only the spec-c models came out with pink lower STI struts.

Paying no attention to the wheels, wanting only to keep the gold for the original Subaru look, he was able to pick up 2-3 sets of these O.Z racing wheels.

It was a great pleasure talking to Ray about his car and experiences with International Motorsport and race history. We can’t wait to see what else will be coming out of his shed.

This pearl white hatch on these crazy green Rays is owned by Josh Hookway. This is a 1998 EK9 Civic type R running the bigger B18c 1800cc VTEC engine with 147 kW; 197 hp @ 8000 rpm & 133 lb-ft @ 7500 rpm.

Josh has owned this Civic for just a little over a year now and has been a Honda man most of his life. He runs a crew called Honda Alliance which is just three months new and growing extremely fast. We asked why he loved Hondas so much, he told us “They’re completely reliable and put out great horsepower for engine size, weight and the way they drive, just like my go cart! I just really enjoy driving them”.

Josh told us he’s been into car culture ever since he could drive. “Boosting around at night with the bro. Sleeping all day, then driving all night”. Josh is a true car guy and we were glad to meet him and hear his story. We took him down to Newmarket in Auckland city to chat and take a few photos.

We managed to find ourselves in a little area under the new overpass bridge and thought it couldn’t get much better with the hot golden sun evaporating into the crisp blue background of the cool night sky. We lit up the bridge and the car and started talking. It started something like “It’s too damn shiny” as I ran around adjusting all the gear.

As we started shooting, the topic came up about the car type and how handy they are.

Hot hatches have become a bit crazy around compact cities, this little thing is the perfect compliment to the back streets of Auckland, with enough HP and noise to impress your mates and enough stance to keep the ladies happy; this Civic holds up well.

Sitting on Buddy Club racing adjustable suspension with hard race adjustable rear camber arms.

Rolling on a set of genuine Ray’s Volk 17″ x 7.5″ that have been re-powder coated in a deep green, with a set of light weight anodized purple alloy wheel nuts.

Green is the theme under the hood, with everything painted to match. Josh is a panel beater by trade and has shown some extreme care under the hood. Josh told us he didn’t leave any piece untouched, even the bolts have been dipped and electrically charged.

Josh hasn’t had to change too much to squeeze a few more ponies out of the B18c, he has added a new inlet and pod filter, hard race engine mounts, alloy radiator, fuel pressure regulator, power fuel rail and a set of hi-tech headers which go to a full 2.5″ exhaust system.

Not a piece left untouched.

The Civic was the best condition that Josh managed to find, it had been converted to a turbo but Josh didn’t have any plans on keeping it that way. However he did keep a few extras e.g pressure reg.

Keeping up with the wicked red standard interior that comes with Recaro seats, red floor mats and door cards.

We had an awesome time talking to Josh and shooting his unique Civic. We’ll try get along and shoot a few of the cars at the next Honda Alliance meet.

EX KON // S13 SILVIA

Red, the colour of blood, anger and love, this S13 Nissan Silvia portrays all three. The stocky look and the raw stance this car has is awesome, this little two door packs a big punch when it comes head to head with the tarmac. This guy was a proud contestant for Drags for a Cure, his sweet ride definitely caught our eye.

Proudly rocking his plate EX KON letting all his competition know where he may or may not have been.

Nothing looks better than a nicely balanced car with a sweet set of deep dish Rays TE37V rims and a set of heavy duty anodized lock nuts. When sliding around over 100km/h you need to know your gear can keep you stuck to the tarmac without letting go or braking.

Set for the track, bitches and not much else. Keeping it simple featuring a crisp custom made carbon fiber switch panel. With a well placed sticker this track car is CLEAN!

Short shift and hard on the hand brake!
